.: Iron Man = Win! :..: 05/05/08 :.
Growing up, Iron Man was always one of my least favorite super-heroes. To me, he was always just some snarky pretentious rich guy who paid to do the fun and cool things that 'true' heroes could, never much of an attraction for me (oddly contrasting the tech-geek that is me). After reading The Ultimates 1 & 2, I thought Tony Stark was pretty damned kick-ass (as was the very intentional Samuel L. Jackson looking Ultimate version of Nick Fury and the classic looking Ultimate Captain America). The whole Ultimate Universe imprint really just keeps getting better (Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men are truly great reboots of truly great super-hero titles), and it's no wonder that the major Marvel films drew a lot of influence from Marvel's Ultimate Universe characters, especially the personalities, while at the same time managing to create their own distinctly separate and more modern universes.
So anyway, I just watched a cam-bootleg of Iron Man and well - now I'm gonna have to go to see it on the big screen tomorrow! Robert Downey Jr. is so perfect for this role - maybe even more than Sammy J as Fury. There's a reason it pulled in $200 million in four days, and according to this they've already announced a sequel for 2010. Not only that, a Thor movie is in the works (Kevin McKidd was pretty good in Journeyman, and he's in some show called Rome that seems to kinda popular), then in 2011 we're getting Captain America, and later that year a full-on fraking Avengers movie! Sam Jackson as Nick Fury is getting closer to reality ;-) Edit - credits were cut off the bootleg, so apparently I missed the huge Avengers movie spoiler geek-gasm inducing Sam Jackson scene! The Avengers will be the biggest movie opening in history, no doubt!
