Some scumbag that was using GoDaddy is trying to flood my email because I got one of his accounts shut down the other day - he/she/it has left over 6500 spams for me so far. I've reported a couple hundred, but I'm just going to set up an auto-forwarder and have every one go straight to the abuse departments that are most likely sitting on their hands.

I also had to remove the chatbox from the site because the gay porn spammers have been working overtime the past few days. My blacklist was getting too big to function correctly anymore for the the chatbox (it still stops 99.999% of comment spam!), so I put up a Twitter feed instead. I just started using it, and as limited as it is, it's better than spending an hour or more deleting shit from my database every few days - plus it's better for making little useless updates and posts than wasting database space on the site. I was only using it for random quotes anyway - people can still comment on posts here, and most people that I talk to is done through email/phone.

After 36 hours of being offline, and 13 hours of frustration trying to get someone to help, the site is back online.

They had some hardware failure early yesterday at the hosting facility, and when they restored the server, the restored files were over 2 months old. Since I had updated the site's software since then, the older files were incompatible with the newer database that was restored. I lost 2 days of stuff (which is nothing much on this sad excuse for a site), but the more important thing was a bunch of files that I sync back and forth with my work machine and my other 2 laptops were restored, as well as the newer script files that I had installed and edited.

I'm still PO'ed at how long it took to get some kind of response - 13 hours for someone to actually do something after several progressively annoyed posts on their message boards as well as a support ticket via email (I did get a reply to my support ticket 6 hours after I sent it in this morning, telling me it was reviewed and was going to be passed on for review - recursive redundancy at it's finest! - but nothing in the 7 hours since). At least someone was able to get a hold of the file backup that matched the database backup.

So big thanks to 'abhilash' at LunarPages for his quick response and action once he saw my problem.

Of course now I have to go and re-delete all the spam from the past few days that was also restored...

Woke up to hundreds of Trackback Spams today, not to mention the usual crap that most of the filters catch. I'm tired of cleaning out my database because of these fuckers - since it's pretty useless anyway, I'm taking the entire Trackback system off this site. Might get rid of the Karma system as well; it seems the only thing that uses those links are the spam and search bots that don't follow standards and scrape your site even though theres a robots.txt file that they checked (Yahoo, you scumbags, I'm looking at you...)

Edit: I managed to finally fix the RSS feeds, and clean up some other crap. I forgot how much I hate coding...

Someone finally came up with a way to integrate the blacklist into the chatbox as well as adding a couple of great new options. I can now delete posts directly from the chatbox instead of going into the database, and people can delete their own posts too.

Now, back to my coffee...

Fuckin' spammers raped my site this morning. Had to go into the database to delete a hundred messages from the chatbox, so I've completely disabled it for now. Trying to figure out how to incorperate the blacklist and some other spam prevention tactics into it, but being that I'm at work it'll have to wait until later.

Went back to using the old version of the chatbox plugin for now, and changed the default display names for the fields (hopefully that'll curb the spammers temporarily).

Now to figure out what to do about making a whole new look for the site. I suck at these things :-p

I re-wrote the chatbox and seemed to have broken it as it won't post any more new messages. My eyes hurt from staring at code all day, so I'm leaving it until tomorrow.

Updating the website software, and a bunch of other stuff, so if things get wonky it should only be temporary.

Edit: OK, everything seems to be working on the upgraded software. Now I just have to upgrade a bunch of plugins and try to fix it so the spamming asshats don't keep driving me crazy.

Ha! Stupid casino spammer asstards were trying as hard as they could last night. Reading through the Nucleus forums it seems the spammers have indeed found our little CMS and have been hard at work trying to ruin our lives. Installing the Comment Control and Blacklist plug-ins has been the best thing since I started using the Nucleus CMS blog system. Bastards tried to get me last night, but they were caught.

OK, I'll stop now...

That's it. I've had 10 of these idiots leaving comment spam the past 2 weekends (which is 10 more than I want to have). Yes, it's nothing compared to some people who get thousands of these a day on their MT blogs, but I loved the freedom that I have enjoyed these past few years using a non standard system here.

Anywho, I've gone and installed a plugin that allows me to make any comments on items over 90 days require approval before they are shown. This should not effect anyone, and you can still post comments freely (I'll only ban the brain-dead spammers).

I also added a Blacklist plugin that should automatically block most of these asshats, so that the comment approval will only effect the new rounds of spamming scum.
