Type O Negative singer Peter Steele Dead at 48 (sadly, not a hoax this time)

STATEN ISLAND, NY--Peter Steele, lead singer for Gothic metal band Type O Negative, is reported dead at the age of 48 due to heart failure.

Steele, who garnered fame for everything from faking his own death to posing fully nude in Playgirl, was known to live the life of a rock star, and reportedly struggled with substance abuse. But Staten Islanders who met him face to face said the dark-maned, brooding rock star was gentle and affable to his fans and his fellow musicians.

He was friggin huge and intimidating, but an awesome guy to hang out with after a Type O show (which now seems like more than a lifetime ago...)

His biggest moment came when he teamed with Lauper for a string of videos in 1985, playing her father. The "Rock N Wrestling Connection" helped boost both Lauper's record sales and the WWE's ratings.

Revered guitar player-inventor Les Paul dead at 94

Musicians worldwide are paying tribute to Les Paul, the music icon whose solid-body electric guitar paved the way for rock 'n' roll, who died this week at age 94.

Paul, a guitar virtuoso, performed with some of early pop's biggest names and produced a slew of hits, many with wife Mary Ford. But it was his inventive streak that made him universally revered by guitar gods as their original ancestor and earned his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the most important forces in popular music.

"He actually taught himself to play guitar in order to demonstrate his electronic theories," said Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. "All of us owe an unimaginable debt to his work and his talent."

Paul, who died Thursday in White Plains, N.Y., of complications from pneumonia, was a tireless tinkerer, whose quest for a particular sound led him to create the first solid-body electric guitar.

I don't care who you are or what you like - music would not be the same without this man. Period.

New Farscape DVDs

Farscape will drop on DVD in The Complete Series Megaset in November as the show marks its 10th anniversary, with all four seasons and hours of extras; executive producer Brian Henson, creator Rockne O'Bannon and stars Ben Browder and Claudia Black will be at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego to discuss their favorite moments from the series and the DVD re-release.

I hope the remastered the first 3 seasons - I need to see Farscape on my whole screen - not jsut an ugly square(ish) picture in the middle...
